We were approached by the Roman Catholic Parish of Neratov if we are interested in participating on the reconstruction of the glass part of the roof of the Church of the Assumption of Virgin Mary in the village of Neratov in Orlické Mountains. A few years ago, water started to leak through the roof, so this was the reason for the reconstruction. Sipral regularly realizes bespoke and often at first sight unsolvable constructions in Czechia and abroad, and although it was not a commercial project, we decided to go ahead with a realisation of the church's glass roof because of its exceptionality and uniqueness.
It was important to solve not only the leakage through the roof, but also the elimination of high moisture condensation on the glass, which arose due to the extreme temperature differences in the lower part of the church and under the roof, especially in the winter months. Since the church is not heated, standard safety simple heat-strengthened laminated glass was designed.
The entire implementation from our side - i.e. dismantling of the original glasses, fixing the grid and glazing was carried out exclusively with the help of cranes and climbing equipment. Most of the work took place at a height of 22 to 25 m above the floor of the church.
The basic requirement of the client was to maintain the normal operation of the church during the reconstruction, i.e. masses, weddings, baptisms and the entry of believers into the church. The church is a very well-known and popular place of pilgrimage, as well as a popular place for tourists. We complied with this requirement throughout the reconstruction.
